The TCW Canadian Championship is a professional wrestling championship owned by WWE for Extreme (WWEFE) and contested in its The Cave Wrestling (TCW) developmental territory. It debuted on November 16, 2006 in the first episode of WWE's version of iMPACT!, after WWE bought out Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA).

Like most professional wrestling championships, the title is won as a result of a scripted match. There have been 6 reigns among 6 wrestlers. The title has previously been known as the TNA Canadian Championship.

History[]

WWE presents iMPACT![]

Main article: iMPACT!

After Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) was bought out by competitor WWE for Extreme (WWEFE, or WWE), TNA's flagship show, iMPACT! was continued as a fourth WWE brand. In order to bring the number of championships up to the same levels as the other brands, General Manager Christian Cage created the Canadian Championship, a parallel to SmackDown!'s United States Championship. On the premier of WWE iMPACT!, David Styles defeated John Cena to become the first champion. It was held until WWE decided to close the iMPACT! brand, with Refuge Tim being the last man to hold the belt.

The Cave[]

When Chris Morgan opened The Cave Wrestling (TCW) under WWEFE as a developmental territory, he revived the Canadian Championship on account of TCW being located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The first champion in over a year was crowned on May 24, 2008, when Bernie Smith defeated Jerry Static on the debut episode of Starlight.
